‘Lo Sguardo delle Donne’ reproposes the location of the historic Taverna Moriggi, returning to its bohemian origins, told by the women portrayed by Amedeo Modigliani. Through the portraits and gazes we discover their stories and get to know the figure of Modì.
ELV - Culture of Innovation and Moriggi Milano are pleased to announce the exhibition “Lo Sguardo delle Donne” (The Look of Women), an opportunity to reflect on universal themes such as femininity, beauty, the role of women in society, but also war, love, friendship and rivalry among the painters of early 20th century Montmartre.
The exhibition presents a thematic journey through backlit works and certified handmade lithographs, offering a unique narrative experience in which to confront and delve into certain aspects of Modigliani's production. An exclusive Virtual Reality experience transports visitors to four environments, each telling the story of Modigliani's relationship with a key woman in his life.
Accessibility is a key word: thanks to the use of technological tools such as interactive QR codes and Braille captions, the exhibition is designed to be accessible to all.
The stories behind the portraits
If the women portrayed by Modigliani could talk, they would have much to tell! Indeed, behind each of the female figures lies a story that is intertwined with a thousand others.
Looking at the portrait of Beatrice Hastings, for example, we relive the times of the war and the bombing of Paris. Behind the portrait of Jeanne Hébuterne, Modi's overwhelming love story unfolds, but also that of the artists of Montparnasse and their tormented lives.
If one digs deeper, the paintings recount some key episodes in European history and deal with universal themes, from war to love, passing through friendship and problematising art and femininity.

Lo Sguardo delle Donne VR is a virtual gallery to immerse yourself inside Amedeo Modigliani's famous paintings. The technological medium provides the backdrop for an immersive narrative that offers a valuable and high-impact experience.
Entering four of Modì's paintings opens up four scenarios that represent the artist's experience and tell the story of the painting, the artist and his relationship with his inspiring muses.
